To mark 75 years of independence, the Ministry of Culture launched the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign and encouraged citizens of the country to hoist the tricolor flag at home. A video shared on social media shows how the campaign has also gripped low-income households who are likely to be suffering from poverty but are nevertheless expressing their patriotism. The video was shared on Twitter by Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Awanish Sharan of the Chhattisgarh Cadre.
The eight-second video shows a woman dressed in a sari standing next to the tricolor hoisted at her home. The woman was seen conducting the Hindu ritual of spinning the sacred fire or arti in front of the flag. The solemn act of worshiping the tricolor on Independence Day left many viewers emotional. Sharan shared the clip on Sunday and mentioned in the caption, “Respect. Har Ghar Tiranga.

According to the Ministry of Culture which launched the campaign, “Our relationship with the flag has always been more formal and institutional than personal”. The statement issued by the ministry also mentions that bringing the flag home collectively as a nation in the 75th year of independence becomes symbolic not only of an act of personal connection with the Habs, but also of an embodiment of our commitment to nation building. The idea behind the initiative is to invoke the feeling of patriotism in people’s hearts and publicize our national flag.
