God will punish any king who worships idols

The Oluwo of Iwoland in Osun State, Oba Abdul Rasheed Adewale Akanbi, has advised Yoruba traditional leaders to stop visiting shrines, warning that God will punish any king who worships idols.
Speaking at the Iwo Crusade for Total Deliverance at the Prayer Center of the Church of God (PCCG), in a video circulating on social media, Oluwo cursed deities and those who worship idols.
Also quoting extensively from the book of Psalms 16 verse 4, Oluwo instructed pastors to ensure that idols are eradicated from the land.
He argued that Nigeria would remain backward if people, especially traditional rulers, worshiped idols.
“Who is Sango, Oya, Ogun, Osun and others before God? Who is the supreme being that all these deities worshiped.
“Our ancestors who ruled as king over the whole Yoruba race deceived everyone, they were wrong. This position of king has no connection with the deities. The position should have no meeting point with deities and idols.
“All who have been kings in the Yoruba kingdom, the pastors, the prophets, the reverends, especially the prophet Ogunmodede, I want to tell you that you are all doing a great job. The voice of God has manifested that in Yorubaland, the king who refuses to throw away idols and deities will know no rest. The problems that you are all facing now, the Yoruba kings are all responsible.
“God is the king, that means the palace where the king lives should be what? The only enemy and rival of God in this palace are the deities or idols that stay in the palace with the king.
“I know you all come from different cities. The chief, the driver, the head of a city who gives orders and directives now houses idols or deities in the palace which originally belongs to God, what will be the result, will they not fight ?
‘That is to say the place of authority of your cities, there is a disturbance, what do you think will be the resultant effect on the subjects? You are already in trouble. Do not berate my position on this issue, you must give in to my advice.
“Idols should not be in a king’s palace. Go tell it to the kings. You married a woman and she brought another man home, how would that be? This is what the kings of Yorubaland do to God. Yet they are waiting for God’s blessing.
“God is here to drive out all the idols in the land. What you all have to do is compete to eliminate the idols from the earth. Make sure the idols perish in the land with the help of pastors.
“Idols are troubling Yorubaland, before power can shift to Yorubaland, we must stop idol worship. Do you know where the power of Nigeria is today? It’s the North because they hate idol worship. They made the foundation of these thrones to be God, you can’t see any idols around them.
‘Idol is a strange religion in Yorubaland. God said we should worship him in the Garden of Eden when he asked Adam to worship him. It will not be well with deities and idols. They are ruined. Stop visiting shrines.
Reacting to Oluwo’s alleged statement, Chief Ifayemi Elebuibon said, “The only thing I can say to Oluwo is that it seems that the Islamic religion he believes in has made him see the traditional things of wrong way.
“Yorubaland is not an Arab-Islamic land. He should know that we have our own practice here. He cannot just bring the belief and behavior of the Arab people here. And that’s what he doesn’t understand. It is better for him to go there and be king since he believes more in the Islamic religion.
